Starforce

As some of you will know by now, StarForce, an anti-piracy system, is secretly installed on your hard drive when you install Blazing Angels, and actually hides itself as a fully-blown and operational IDE Device driver. Clownfish plugin for teamspeak 3 servers. I say secretly, yet if anyone actually bothers to read and decipher the Installation Agreement that comes with the installation process of B.A.

(and who has the time and effort to do this?), it may possibly hint at such an installation of the StarForce 'Device Drivers' - if anyone actually finds something to this effect, it would be interesting to hear from you. If you want to find & destroy StarForce's Hidden IDE Device Drivers, I'll give the link in a moment. But first, please be aware that by removing the StarForce hidden IDE device drivers, Blazing Angels may not continue to work after doing so.

I've not tried it yet, as I'm still in two minds whether or not to keep this crippled, half-ready game on my hard drive. If you're wondering about what problems the StarForce Device Drivers can cause, here's an extract from the GLOP.ORG site, from the PC Gamer Editor-in chief - copied & pasted here verbatim: # # # # # # # # # # I'm okay with that in theory, but some of these anti-piracy software programs are so potent that they cause issues for legitimate game buyers.

One of the leading brands, StarForce, is notorious for not only making it difficult for a small percentage of legitimate users to load up StarForce-protected games, but also for leaving potentially problem-causing StarForce software behind on your PC, even after you've deleted the game it was protecting. And this isn't just some story that I've read about online or in emails from readers. No, it happened to me. Last year, my work PC suddenly began blue-screening (crashing) any time I popped an audio CD into either of my two optical drives. I went online and learned that other people were having this problem and that it appeared to be StarForce-related. Deleting my StarForce-protected games did nothing. I had to run a StarForce-removal utility before my system - filled only with legal, licensed software - could play audio CDs again.

# # # # # # # # # # Another quote from the same article: - Indeed, Starforce isn't really doing its job, and it's causing so much trouble to the users that the Starforce team itself ask the game publishers to remove it. To see this article yourself, and to know how to detect (I personally found 6 StarForce Device Drivers!) and remove this Hidden Scum, the URL is: Don't forget to click on their link - you'll find Blazing Angels there. There's also a fine example (video) of a PC with StarForce crashing and re-booting. To go straight to the removal instructions, Last personal point: Just as there are laws (and rightfully so) against the unlawful copying and distribution of copyrighted software, such a law should ALSO exist and be in force, to protect and prevent against the SILENT installation, without a user's full consent, of any type of software that may cause harm to a user's PC - in any shape or form. Also: Deliberately ambiguous permission requests (innocent-looking pop-ups), or using purposely confusing language to gain permission to install this kind of potentially damaging anti-piracy software, should also itself be an offence - as serious as illegally copying the software it was designed to protect.

/ / / / / / / / / / Either way, UBISOFT have really taken things too far this time. Not only do they provide a sub-standard product (putting it mildly), but they add insult to injury by silently installing scum on our hard drives - scum that was promised some time back would not be used anymore. Follow the instructions at GLOP.COM, and I'm sure you'll find you've also been 'infected' with StarForce.

Is this it now? How many loyal UBISOFT users will never again buy a UBI game? Time will tell, but it's not looking good. They've lost me for sure this time. Enough is enough. Just in case anyone who hates StarForce is wondering if removing StarForce anti-piracy will prevent Blazing Angels from running - it certainly does.

I used the, and it really did a thorough job. Once cleaned, I couldn't find a trace of it anywhere, and I looked everywhere to make sure. I placed the Blazing Angels disc back in, and tried to launch it. A window appeared, instructing me that: PROTECTION SYSTEM To launch the application, you need to install additional libraries on your computer. Would you like to install them now? YES/NO Clicking NO cancels the launch. So there we have it.

Starforce

If you wish to continue to use Blazing Angels (. Erm?), you'll have to put up with StarForce running on your system in the background. You could of course run the Removal Tool after every time you play Blazing Angels. Not a perfect answer by any means.

How I have seen it all. Copy protection on Demos and Trials. WTF is going on here??

I downloaded a demo and tried it, not going to say which one, from what company, but it has Starforce protection in the demo. Lets face it, game companies need copy protection, I do agree with this. But no company has a right to use a 3rd party protections that causes a lot of computer problems, or installs itself in a way the user is not away of. And refusal to install it will make the game non playable. So you are stuck with a shiney new frisby. Well lets do some research here. Surfing, googling.

'How to get around Starforce Protection in games' Well what do you know hackers and crackers have already found the way. Why am I saying this? Cause the game companies are using this form of protection thinking its the safest, and most secure for their product, when to be honest none is really secure to a hacker or cracker that really is determined to get in the game and make it playable. Now I understand that the gaming companies need money and to make money need to sell thier games.

But the custermers have been threatening for about a year to boybott any gameing company that useing a 3rd party protections. Namely Starforce.

Go back to making killer games and stick to copy protections that doesnt add files to the computer making the computer more unstable. If you did this you would have no problem making sales. Its like they have taken up a person battle with the hackers and crackers and forgot about us that buy the games.

Now for the game, I can play it, and to be honest I love the idea they have going here. But you dont take a arcade style flyer and try to add sim parts in it like landing on a aircraft carrier. That is just asking for trouble.

Some can do it, a lot can't. And the ones doing it cant do it 10/10 times.

I love flight sims, not too big on the flight arcade style, but this one (Once the bugs are worked out) could be a lot better then what it is. What happen to Beta Testing? I mean you can inhouse Beta Test as I am sure you guys did, but come on, how many people in this world you think uses the same setup as you guys.

Cliffs

I would guess its very very very low. So it sum all this up. I will never by any game ever again that has starforce, and I think I may see that it is required by law that the copy write methode is stated on the box itself, in a warning label. That should make it to where you get the point we are trying to give to you. If you think we dont pay attention then you will soon see that you are really mistaken and it could cost you a job. As for the game itself.

Keep the patches going, and we will see if you are listening to us or not. Remember that most companies only support a game for 1-2 years then it dies off, some are quicker. EA is an example, they had a game called Motor City Online, and it was only a ONLINE game, and they finally shut the servers down, without recalling all the games that was still be sold in stores. So guess what? People was still buying a game that was unplayable in all rights.

Many people noticed this and EA caught a major fall out from this. Dont be like that.

Its just wrong to sell something and then turn your back on the people once they see you didnt tell them all the problems with the product in the first place. Ok i think i just had my first encounter with starforce. I put a cd i had a program saved on into my cd-rw, hit browse cd and went to copy the files onto my desktop when the cdrw locked up without displaying any errors or crashing explorer.then all of the sudden my dvd drive (where i have the B.A. Cd stored) starts spinning up like crazy(it was spinning louder and faster than my rw burning at 52X) so when i cant open the drives or stop the spinning i restart my computer and as soon as windows finishes loading up the dvd-r starts going nutty again. Finally i restart windows again, pause the bios from booting, rip the b.a. Cd outa my dvd drive and let windows start and what do you know.the dvd-r does its initial spin and then goes idle like its supposed to.

Its weird because i thought it was a fluke so i tried to copy the files again with the b.a. Cd in the dvd drive and it does the same thing. It doesnt happen unless have the b.a.

Cd in the dvd drive so its avoidable but still makes me wonder.
